Minutes of the
Forest Preserve Committee


January 16, 2001


The DeKalb County Forest Preserve Committee met Tuesday, January 16, 2001 in shelter #3 at the Chief Shabbona Forest Preserve, at 6:00p.m. Chairman John Morreale called the meeting to order with Mr. Dlabal, Mr. Haines, Mr. Metzger, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Sands, and Mr. Simonson present. Mr. Hannan was also present. Mr. Guehler and Mr. Lyle were absent. (However, Mr. Lyle did attempt to make the meeting, but could not locate shelter #3.)

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Moved by Mr. Dlabal, seconded by Mr. McLaughlin, and it was carried unanimously with a voice vote to approve the minutes for December.

 

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Moved by Mr. Simonson, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and it was carried unanimously to approve the agenda.

 

GENERAL DISCUSSION

Mr. Hannan gave a brief overview of the history of Chief Shabbona Forest Preserve including the purchasing of the land to what it has to offer for recreation and natural beauty. There was a brief discussion among the Committee members about the inflation of the market value since the purchase of Chief Shabbona Forest Preserve in 1942.

Mr. Haines arrived at 6:10 p.m.

Mr. Hannan gave an update on the condition of the sledding hill at Russell Woods and Sannauk Forest Preserves. The Forest Preserve District staff has posted additional signs at the top of the hill informing the public to be cautious as they use the hill at their own risk. Forest Preserves have been very busy with sledding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and shelter house activities.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Moved by Mr. Dlabal, seconded by Mr. Simonson, it was carried unanimously to move into executive session by voice vote at 6:35 p.m.

 

ADJOURNMENT

Mr. Dlabal moved, Mr. Haines seconded, to adjourn the meeting and the motion passed with a unanimous voice vote.
