Minutes of the DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commissions

     The meeting started at 7:10 with Steve Walz as acting president.  We had eight members in attendance.

 

     The minutes of the February meeting were read and Frank Beierlotzer made the motion to accept the minutes as read, and this was seconded by Steve Skopek.  The minutes were approved.  The minutes of the March meeting were read and John Duback made the motion to accept the minutes as read and this was seconded by Don McMillen.  The minutes were approved.

 

      John Davis reported that we have $1992.57 in the bank, and Steve Skopek seconded the report, and the finance report was accepted.

 

     There was no correspondence.

 

     Superintendent’s report, Representative Bob Pritchard sent a letter to the Governor asking why Iraqi veterans are not getting the Illinois bonus.  The Voluntary Action Center is taking most of our trips to Hines and Aurora.  Don McMillen made the motion to accept the report and this was seconded by Steve Skopek.  The motion passed.  Herb Holderman had two meetings with the people designing the new building.

 

     Committee reports, the Vet Fair will be August 11, between the hours of 9: 30 and 1:00.  A mailing will go out soon on the fair.  There will be 40 booths and everything is proceeding very well.

 

     Constitution and Bylaws, Herb Holderman will be mailing changes on the bylaws to the commission members for us to discuss.

 

     There was no budget or personnel report.

 

     Public relations, Frank Beierlotzer will mention the Vet Fair and the traveling wall at the Mayor’s Breakfast.  Nathan Messer is putting together a list of all the Veteran’s Assistance Commissions in the area so vets can go to their local VAC and get the help they need.

 

     Unfinished business, they will be breaking ground soon on the new building and it should be done by September 2008.  The VAC handbook will be printed soon.  The new hire is still under discussion but probably in six months.

 

     New business, we had some discussion on a van for DCVAC and a wheelchair lift for the van will run approximately $6000.  We are currently paying Kendall County VAC to take some of our vets to Hines.

 

     There was nothing under the heading of for the good of the commission.

 

     Frank Beierlotzer made the motion to adjourn and this was seconded by Jerry Taylor.

 

     We adjourned at 8:20.
