Minutes of the DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commissions

      President Rich Joslin called the meeting to order at 7:05.  We had 9 members in attendance.

 

     The minutes were read from the June  meeting.  Gary Keegan made the motion to accept the minutes and this was seconded by Loren Monses.  The motion passed.

 

     John Davis reported that we now have $1267.57 in the bank. $750.00 was used for emergency assistance for needy veteran. Approved subject to audit.

 

     Correspondence, Thank you from Fox Valley Older Adults for flag presentation and donation.  American Legion award to DCVAC for distinguished services. Villa Park job fair.

 

     Superintendent’s report, Herb Holderman passed out a report on what money was spent to help veterans and also the number of trips to Hines and Madison.   There was more discussion of having an emergency fund for veterans in need so that they will not have to wait for up to six weeks to receive help.  Building bids were too high.  New bidding process will start 7/20/07

 

     Committee reports, Vet fair will be at Kishwaukee College on Saturday August 11, from 9:30 to 1:00.  This will be for employment, health, and benefits.  Area people will help put up posters, and the boy scouts will be asked if they will sell hot dogs and hamburgers.  23 Vendors are committed at this time.

 

     Constitution and Bylaws, no report.

 

     There was no budget and personnel report.

 

     Public relations, Frank Beierlotzer has been hand delivering to the news papers the time and place of our meetings but they have not been published in a timely fashion.

 

     Unfinished business, New building (see above),  new hire- job description handed out,

handbook still having trouble with formatting, but getting closer. Van discussion on starting a fund with $25000.00 purchasing a 2008 then in 2 years having enough money in the fund to purchase a low floor handicap accessible van.

 

     New Business There was discussion on what to do with the money in our treasury. Possibility of combining this with other donations to assist CDL training at Kish College.  The class cost $3500.00.  The Il Veterans Grant pays approximately $2500.00

 

     Mike Boorsma made the motion to adjourn and this was seconded by John Duback.
