The meeting started at 7:02 with President Rich Joslin calling the meeting to order.  There were 14 members in attendance including President Rich Joslin, Secretary Steve Walz, Superintendant Herb Holderman, Jon Lehuta of DeKalb American Legion and Jerry Johnson of DeKalb VFW.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and seconded by Jon Lehuta.  The minutes were approved as read.     John Davis gave his financial report and we have $1537.57, and this was seconded by Jon Lehuta.  The report was approved.

The commission received a letter from Representative Bill Foster and we are trying to get him to come to one of our meetings to talk to him about veteran affairs.

Superintendent Herb Holderman gave his monthly report and explained how the financial report worked.  Herb also went over the proposed budget for 2009 and asked for input before August 10.  The commission will be hiring Steve Scoughton on September 1 and Tammy Anderson on or about October 1.  We also discussed doing some on air advertising with WLBK.

Vet Fair V is coming along and so far there are 6 businesses signed up to be there, but some employers are complaining about the cost of traveling to the Vet Fair.  Signs will be up announcing the Vet Fair courtesy of Jerry Johnson.  The Senior Expo at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau needs more help.

Superintendent Holderman will be going on a walk through of the new offices.  We are expected to be in the new building in September.     President Rich Joslin and Superintendent Holderman will be working on the design for the VAC car so people will know who we are when we are delivering vets to different hospitals.

Jon Lehuta made the motion to pay the bills totaling $156,786.12 and this was seconded by Jerry Johnson.  The motion was approved.

It was decided that we would try WLBK advertising and do 50 thirty second spots.  We will start out with about two a week for the Vet Fair and probably more as we get closer to the Vet Fair.  There was also discussion on running ads announcing the hours of the commission, and some of the things that we do such as transporting vets to the hospital, and advising vets of their rights.  Jon Lehuta made the motion for the 50 ads for a cost of $500 and this was seconded by Steve Scoughton.  The motion passed. Jerry Johnson made a motion that an ad be placed in the help wanted section of the newspapers stating attention Vets if you need help contact Herb Holderman, and this was seconded by Frank Beierlotzer.  The motion passed.     Frank Beierlotzer is looking for help for his Fly-in Drive-in breakfast on July 26.

Respectfully Submitted,

Steve Walz, Secretary
