Minutes of the DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commissions

     The meeting started at 7:09 with Vice –President Mike Boorsma calling the meeting to order.  We had 15 members in attendance and 1 guest.  Among those in attendance were Mike Boorsma, Steve Walz, Herb Holderman, John Davis and Rich Joslin.  The minutes of the February meeting were read and approved with two minor changes.  Frank Beierlotzer made the motion and this was seconded by John Davis.  The motion passed.

     John Davis gave his finance report and we have 1262.57 in our account.  Five dollars was sent to the Secretary of State for renewing our not for profit incorporation status.  Letters have been sent out to the various organizations for dues.

     Superintendant Holderman reported that it was a slow month mostly because of weather.  Several trips were cancelled and he could not get around the county as much as he had.

     The Vet Fair will be August 9, 2008.

     Herb said that we would be hiring Steven Scoughton and Jerry Taylor as temps in June. Steven Scoughton will be hired full time in July.  Tammy Anderson would be hired full time in October or November.

     Frank Beierlotzer handed out fliers on the Drivein-Flyin to be held at the DeKalb Taylor airport on July 25-27.  He also mentioned that the Sycamore Armory unit will be deployed over seas.  The Veterans Assistance Commission is looking at ways to help the families.  Frank also made the motion that the VAC should support the mayors breakfast on Memorial Day.  This was seconded by Rich Joslin and the motion passed.

     John Davis made the motion to pay the bills for a total of $7843.30, and this was seconded by Steven Scoughton.  The bills were paid.    

     Our next meeting will be April 14 at the Sycamore Vets Home.

     Larry Allen made the motion to adjourn at 7:33
