The Law and Justice Committee of the DeKalb County Board met on Monday, September 10, 2009 @ 6:30p.m. in the DeKalb County Administration Building’s Conference Room East. Chairman Marlene Allen called the meeting to order. Those present were Riley Oncken, Kevin Chambliss, Derek Tyson and Anita Turner. Ms. Margi Gilmour and Ms. Regina Harris were also present.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTESMoved by Mr. Oncken, seconded by Ms. Turner, and it was carried unanimously to approve the minutes from July and August 2009. APPROVAL OF THE AGENDAMoved by Ms. Turner, seconded by Mr. Oncken, and it was carried unanimously to approve the agenda ELECTION OF A NEW VICE-CHAIRMAN Moved by Mr. Oncken, seconded by Mr. Tyson, and it was carried unanimously to approve Ms. Anita Turner as the new Vice-Chairman of the Law and Justice Committee.
COURT SERVICES REPORTS – MS. MARGI GILMOUR Ms. Gilmour then reported that under the Juvenile Court Services Report that there was 1 young man that is in residential placement, who is a sex offender. She said that her budget for residential placement this year will be okay even with this admittance into Onarga. Ms. Gilmour also said that the Safehouse is moving along this past month. She said that they have interviewed potential foster people for the home. They like one of the applicants who is a single parent with two children of her own.
PUBLIC DEFENDER’S REPORT – MS. REGINA HARRIS Ms. Harris said that in relation to the recent murder case that has happened in DeKalb County, their office has not been approached yet to represent the defendant. She is not sure if they will get the case.
JAIL REPORT
ADJOURNMENT Moved by Mr. Oncken, seconded by Ms. Turner, and it was carried unanimously to adjourn so that the committee could go on the Tour of the DeKalb County Courthouse.
