VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISION

APRIL 13, 2009

The meeting started at 7:00 with President Rich Joslin presiding. We had 12 members in attendance, including Steve Walz, Mike Boorsma, Frank Beierlotzer, John Davis, Jim Cox and Don Jones.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and were seconded by Jerry Johnson. The minutes were approved.

John Davis gave the corporation financial report and we have $1851.67. The report was seconded by Don Jones and the report was approved.

We helped approximately 25 veterans with financial assistance amounting to $5738.00. We also took 3 veterans to Hines and 7 to Madison.

The next Vet Fair will be September 19, and we are working with NIU on this. We will concentrate on jobs and healthcare. When the troops from the Sycamore Armory come back in June, they will be having a separate job fair and we will be willing to help them too. When the troops come home we will line the streets in Sycamore with flags. When the convoy of old military vehicles comes through DeKalb on June 20th there will be a ceremony at the corner of First Street and Route 38.

Mike Boorsma made the motion to pay the bills of the Commission totaling $5738 and this was seconded by Don Jones. The bills will be paid.

Tuesday the 12th will be the open house at the new county building from 4:30 until 7:00. There will be a quick tour of the building. There will be no June meeting. Jim Cox would like e-mails on when the meetings will be as some of the members did not get notified.

Mike Boorsma made the motion to adjourn at 7:17 and it was approved.
