DEKALB COUNTY VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION 8-10-09
The meeting started at 7:00 with President Rich Joslin presiding. Members in attendance included President Rich Joslin, Vice-President Mike Boorsma, Secretary Steve Walz, Treasurer John Davis, Don Jones, and Jim Cox.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and seconded by Don Jones. The corporation treasurer report was read by John Davis and seconded by Don Jones. Both reports were approved as read.
Superintendant Herb Holderman gave his report and we assisted 53 veterans with financial assistance totaling $9226.04. We also made twelve trips to veteran’s hospitals. Todd Latham from NIU will be teaching a class to veterans this fall, and in September our people will help with this program. Herb also mentioned that though we are over budget, we are still in good shape financially because of funds that have been set aside for emergencies, but we will try to cut down on travel expenses. There will be a meeting at the VAC from different county VAC’s for better coordination between them. Governor Quinn signed into law a bill that provides greater educational and informational resources for veterans. The Vet Fair will be September 19 at the Community Outreach Building.
There was a motion made by Mike Boorsma to pay the commission bills totaling $9226.04 and this was seconded by Jim Cox. The bills were paid.
Mike Boorsma made the motion to adjourn at 7:45 and this was seconded by Jim Cox. We adjourned.
