DEKALB COUNTY VETERANS

ASSISTANCE COMMOISSION

SEPTEMBER 14, 2009

The meeting started at 7:00 with President Rich Joslin calling the meeting to order.  There were 14 members in attendance.  Among those present were Mike Boorsma, John Davis, Bill Davis, Don Jones, Jim Cox and Jerry Johnson.  Jerry Pelan from the 40 & 8 was introduced as the new alternate for that organization.

The minutes were read and seconded by Jim Cox and were approved as read.  John Davis gave the corporation financial report and there is $1797.16 in the account.  The report was seconded by Mike Boorsma and was approved.

Superintendant Holderman gave his report and we assisted 63 veterans with a total dollar amount of $10,967, and we made twelve trips to various veterans’ facilities.  Mike Boorsma made the motion to pay the commissions bills and this was seconded by Don Jones. The bills were paid.

The Vet Fair will be this Saturday, September 19 and there are 33 confirmed booths, and NIU will be assisting us.  The new budget was sent to the County Board and is waiting on approval.  The doll house is on hold because of personal reasons with the maker.  The November meeting has been cancelled due to so many of the commission members being gone on a veterans cruise.  The Stojan fund raiser will be September 25, and the vigil will start October 30 at6:00 P. M. and will end October 31 at 6:00 P.M.  Herb Holderman received an e- mail about a group passing themselves off as VA representatives for medicine, but all they are just trying to do is get your personal information.  There was a local veteran from DeKalb that has been killed.  An information al flyer was passed around on Faces of Freedom.

Mike Boorsma made the motion to adjourn at 7:45 and this was seconded by .Don Jones.

Respectfully Submitted,

Steve Walz, Secretary
