VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION

JUNE 14, 2010

     The meeting started at 7:00 with Treasurer John Davis presiding.  There were 8 members in attendance.

     The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Linda Drake seconded the report.  The report was approved as read.  John Davis gave the corporation financial report, and there is $1085.12 in the account.  Herb Holderman paid $659.87 on the doll house, and two checks came in totaling $50 that were not yet included.  Steve Walz seconded the report and the report was approved.

     Herb Holderman gave the superintendants report, and the commission spent $52,934.41 last month, but that also included rent for the year, otherwise $24,000 was spent on veterans and their families.  The commission is doing more outreach with the various Chambers of Commerce to get our name out so that we can better serve the veterans.  The members went to Minneapolis, Minnesota to continue training to become certified veterans advocates. 

     Steve Walz made the motion to pay the commissions bills totaling $52,934.41, and this was seconded by Don Jones.  The bills will be paid.

     Steve Scoughton told us that the Vet Fair will be at the NIU Field House September 25 between 9:00A.M. and 1:00P.M.  We are working with Justin Faulkner and the NIU veteran’s assistance office.  The NIU ROTC is also helping out.  Letters will be going out next week to possible vendors. 

     Small gifts have been purchased to give away at the various functions that the commission goes to.

     Don Jones made the motion to adjourn at 7:21.
