Health & Human Services Committee

November 7, 2011

 

 

            The Health & Human Services Committee of the DeKalb County Board met on Monday, November 7, 2011, @ 6:30p.m. in the Administration Building’s Conference Room East.  Chairman Stoddard called the meeting to order.  Members present were Mr. Emerson, Ms. DeFauw, Mr. Metzger, Sr., and Mr. Tyson. Ms. Allen was absent.  A quorum was present.  Mr. Herb Holderman was also present.

 

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

            It was moved by Mr. Emerson, seconded by Mr. Tyson, and it was carried unanimously to approve the minutes from October 2011.

 

           

APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA

            Chairman Stoddard said that he did not have anything to report this month from the Board of Health so he was striking item #5 from the agenda.

 

            It was moved by Mr. Metzger, Sr., seconded by Ms. DeFauw, and it was carried unanimously to approve the agenda.

 

 

VETERAN’S ASSISTANCE COMMISSION UPDATE – MR. HERB HOLDERMAN

Mr. Herb Holderman, Director of the DeKalb County Veteran’s Assistance Commission, gave a brief report on his office to the committee.  He stated that he is currently over on his budget by $36,000 due to the purchase of a new car at $36,000.00.  He also will be spending another $30,000 by the end of this year due to an unexpected rise in general assistance.  To date this year they have had 45 claims promulgated for a total of $114,522.00 in monthly benefits and retroactive monetary benefits of $696,883.00.  So they have brought in nearly $1 million into the County this year.  He has been appointed to the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee. 

 

REQUEST FROM FAMILY SERVICE AGENCY FOR SENIOR SERVICES TAX LEVY FUNDS.

Ms. Donna Moulton, Director of Community Services, has been approached by the Family Service Agency for a request of $3,920.00 for Chronic Disease Self Management Program for Senior Citizens to be handled at Family Service Agency.  The committee agreed to hold off on a decision on this request until the first of the year.

 

It was moved by Mr. Metzger, Sr., seconded by Mr. Emerson, and it was carried unanimously to cancel the December 2011 Health and Human Services Committee meeting.

                       

 

ADJOURNMENT

            Moved by Mr. Tyson, and seconded by Ms. DeFauw, and it was carried unanimously to adjourn the meeting.
