HIGHWAY COMMITTEE

June 15, 2011

A special meeting of the Highway Committee of the DeKalb County Board was held on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 7:00pm in the Freedom Room of the Legislative Building, DeKalb County Government Complex, Sycamore, Illinois.

Chairman Gudmunson called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.  Committee members present were Vice-Chair Augsburger, Mr. Brown, Mr. Cribben, Mr. Deverell and Mr. Foster.   Others present were William Lorence, County Engineer, Wayne Davey, Support Services Manager and Mr. Roger Craigmile, resident DeKalb County.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA:

Motion made by Mr. Deverell and seconded Vice-Chair Augsburger to approve the agenda as presented.   The motion to approve the agenda carried unanimously.

PUBLIC COMMENT:   Mr. Craigmile inquired into the replacement of the Gurler Road Bridge at a time when the Keslinger Road Bridge has yet to be constructed.  This would have two east-west routes a mile apart closed for a period of time.  Mr. Craigmile raised safety concerns for first responders coming from the DeKalb area.  Mr. Lorence stated this was a Road District Bridge and the County had very little control over the schedule.  Mr. Lorence further stated the road will be closed for approximately three months and hopes to have the road open prior to harvest.

AWARD RESOLUTION #R2011-42, DEKALB ROAD DISTRICT GURLER ROAD BRIDGE:

Mr. Lorence explained that the Highway Department received bids on June 7, 2011, for the replacement of the bridge over the south branch of the Kishwaukee River located on Gurler Road approximately one-half mile southwest of DeKalb.  Six bids were received for this pour in place concrete bridge and Alliance Contractors, Inc of Woodstock, Illinois submitted the low bid meeting specifications.  Mr. Lorence recommended award to Alliance.  A motion was made by Mr. Foster and seconded by Vice-Chair Augsburger to forward this resolution to the full County Board recommending award.  The motion carried unanimously.

CHAIRMAN’S COMMENTS:  Chairman Gudmunson thanked the County Engineer for his 16 years of service with DeKalb County and wished him all the best in retirement.

COUNTY ENGINEER’S COMMENTS:  None

ADJOURNMENT:  Chair Gudmunson inquired if there was anything else that needed to be brought before the Committee and hearing none requested a motion to adjourn.  A motion was made by Vice-Chair Augsburger and seconded by Mr. Brown.  The motion passed unanimously and the June 15, 2011 meeting was adjourned at 7:16pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

John Gudmunson
