DEKALB COUNTY VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION

APRIL 11, 2011

The meeting started at 7:00 with President Rich Joslin calling the meeting to order.  There were 10 members in attendance.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Don Jones made the motion to accept the minutes.  This was seconded by Frank Beierlotzer and the minutes were approved.  John Davis gave the corporation financial report and there is $1200.12 in the account.

Herb Holderman gave the superintendants report and so far we have spent 17% of our budget.  The commission helped seven veterans receive $3638.00 for the month and $46,939.00 in retroactive amount.  We helped 28 veterans with food, shelter and utilities.  The commission spent $31,322.38 for the month.

Frank Beierlotzer reminded us of the breakfast at Carl’s Fargo on May 30.

Rich Joslin told us that the new car that we were looking at has already been sold but that a new car is on order and will be in about mid-June.  Frank came up with a suggestion that we might want a garage for our vehicles and there was much discussion on this.  Steve Scoughton will investigate prices.  On April 27th there will be a welcome home trip to welcome home a WWII veteran from the honor flight.  The cost will be $10 a person.  The Sycamore SAL is looking for a project in the county to help or support our veterans.  They would like to spend between $4000 and $5000.  We will take this back to our respective organizations for ideas.  It was decided that we should be saying the Pledge of Allegiance before every meeting.  This was agreed to unanimously.

At 7:55 Steve Walz made the motion to adjourn.

Respectfully Submitted,

Steve Walz, Secretary
