DEKALB COUNTY VETERANS

ASSISTANCE COMMISION

FEBRUARY 14, 2011

The meeting started at 7:00 with President Rich Joslin calling the meeting to order.  There were 10 members in attendance.  The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Don Jones seconded the minutes.  The minutes were approved.  John Davis gave the corporation financial report and there is $1200.12 in the account.  Don Jones seconded the report and the report was approved.

Herb Holderman gave the superintendants report.  Tamala Anderson was in Hinckley speaking to a group, so she was missing from the meeting.  The commission assisted 19 veterans with food and utilities, and 24 with shelter.  We transported 9 veterans to the Madison VA hospital.  We also helped 4 veterans receive $4203.00 in back pay for the month and $108,850.00 in payments going back to when the claims were originally filed.  Don Jones seconded the report and the report was approved.

Frank Beierlotzer handed out a paper telling about the next Mayor’s Breakfast.  It will be at Carl’s Fargo Restaurant on Monday May 30 from 6:45 A.M. to 7:30 A.M

Mike Boorsma made the motion to pay the commissions bills, totaling $10389.73 and this was seconded by Don Jones.  The bills will be paid. The doll house is still on hold.  Our next Vet Fair will be in November at NIU.  February 17, Jack Berg of the McCormack Foundation will be coming to our commission to discuss ways to help our veterans.  The Chicago Medical Innovation group has been working on a cure for PTSD.  Steve Scoughton will be going to learn more about the process which entails getting two shots in the neck.  There is much work to be done and trials are only beginning.

At 7:37 Don Jones made the motion to adjourn and this was seconded by Jim Cox.  We were adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Steve Walz, Secretary
