DEKALB COUNTY VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISION JANUARY 10, 2011
The meeting started at 7:00 with President Rich Joslin calling the meeting to order. There were nine members in attendance.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Don Jones made the motion to accept the minutes and this was seconded by Jon Lehuta. The minutes were approved. John Davis gave the corporation financial report, and we have $1200.12 in the account. Don Jones seconded the report and the report was approved.
Superintendants report; we helped 29 veterans with financial assistance for food, shelter and utilities totaling $12588.00. We also transported 10 veterans to various hospitals. Maintenance cost for car insurance and four new tires on the commission’s car cost $1833.66. Tamela Anderson with some help from IDVA was able to get one veteran $120,000 in retroactive benefits. Herb Holderman hopes to have annual totals for the first five years in business by next month. The annual budget for the year 2011 will be $550,500. The doll house is still coming along although slowly.
Mike Boorsma made the motion to pay the commissions bills’ totaling $14,619.66, and this was seconded by Don Jones. The bills will be paid. Vet Fest will be around Veterans Day and it will be at the NIU Field House. The 25th anniversary of the Chicago Vietnam Veteran parade is coming up.
Mike Boorsma made the motion to adjourn at 7:20.
