DEKALB COUNTY VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION

JULY 11, 2011

The meeting started at 7:05 with President Rich Joslin calling the meeting to order.  There were nine members in attendance.  The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Steve Scoughton made the motion to approve the minutes and this was seconded by Bob McDonald.  The minutes were approved.  Bob McDonald was introduced as the new delegate from Waterman.  John Davis gave the corporation finance report and there is $1305.12 in the account.  Steve Scoughton seconded the report and the report was approved.

Herb Holderman gave the superintendants report.  Last month we assisted 32 members with food, 29 with shelter, and 21 with utilities.  We also helped 2 veterans collect $948 for the month and back pay totaling $17,682.  We made 10 trips to VA Hospitals transporting 14 veterans.  For the month we spent $46,886.34.  Bob made the motion to pay the bills and this was seconded by Steve Scoughton.  The bills were paid.

President Joslin brought up some changes we should make in the by-laws.  He would like to drop the Sergeant-at-arms post and the chaplain’s post.  Next he would like to change the meetings to every month instead of quarterly.  Finally, every delegate, alternate and staff member is to be paid for travel expenses to and from meetings and this will be paid quarterly.  The amount will co-inside with what the county pays for travel.

There was some discussion on meeting places again and the October meeting will be in Sandwich.

The Sons of the American Legion will be installing a handicap bathroom in the Sycamore Veterans Club.  Herb is working on a new sign-up sheet for the meetings.

Steve Walz made the motion to adjourn at 7:41.

Respectfully Submitted,

Steve Walz, Secretary
