DEKALB COPUNTY VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION

MARCH 14, 2011

The meeting started at 8:04 with President Rich Joslin calling the meeting to order.  There were 10 members in attendance.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Don Jones seconded the minutes.  The minutes were approved.  John Davis gave the corporation financial report and there is $1200.12 in the account.  Frank Beierlotzer made the motion to accept the report and this was seconded by Don Jones.  The report was approved.  Frank also made the motion to accept the verbal resignation of Mike Boorsma as Vice-President and this was seconded by Don Jones.  The resignation was approved.

Superintendants report; Herb Holderman says we assisted 24 veterans with food and utilities and 25 with shelter.  There will be 2 service officers going to Biloxi, Mississippi for the annual conference and training, and three will be going to certified veterans advocates classes.  We recovered $2872.00 for the month for various veterans and $50,674.00 in pay dating back to their file dates.  The bills for the month, including wages, are $31,070.76.  Don Jones made the motion to pay the bills and this was seconded by Jim Cox. Herb Holderman has applications for the DeKalb County Veterans honor roll.  Kishwaukee College is now charging $4099 for the truck driving school which is an increase of $99. The Illinois Veterans grant pays $3000 so Herb would like an increase of $99 to what we pay to make up the difference.  Don made the motion and this was seconded by Frank.  The motion passed.  Madison VA says that they are full and they do not want to accept any more veterans from DeKalb County, however the veterans already going there are still going to be able to go there.  More of our people will be going to Hines and therefore we will need a second vehicle.  We will probably be looking at a Ford Edge from Brad Manning.  Rich Joslin made a motion to spend up to $36,000 on a new car and this was seconded by Frank Beierlotzer.  The motion was approved.

Jin Cox was nominated to be our new Vice-President and was unanimously approved.  The groups that participate in changing the courthouse flags will have to come to DCVAC to pick up the new flags as the flags came up missing once last year.  Frank Beierlotzer is new to Face book but has been promoting DCVAC on it.  Frank also told us that he would like more people to turn out at Chicago to welcome back veterans from the Freedom Flights.

Don Jones made the motion to adjourn at 8:47 and this was seconded by Frank.  We were adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Steve Walz, Secretary
