ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION UPDATE – MR. PAUL BOREK

Mr. Borek said that Ryerson, Inc. has leased the building located at 1085 Peace Road in DeKalb, Illinois.  It is the old Encoat Company Building.  Ryerson, Inc. is a steel distribution company throughout North America.  This facility will serve as a region distribution center.  The product will be trucked in from mills and sent out to other service centers throughout their region.  They will have 20 employees initially working there, but they anticipate significant growth as time goes on.  They are looking forward to becoming a part of the community, Mr. Borek said.

Mr. Borek also mentioned that in February 2012, Nehring Electrical Works celebrated their 100th year anniversary in business.  It is an anniversary that was met with a recent $8 million expansion and growing workforce.  It was originally established as Nehring Insulated Wire Company, and a few years later changed it to Nehring Electrical Works Company.  Nehring led the industry by covering copper wire with braided cotton. Today, wires are covered with a plastic coating.

The committee thanked Mr. Borek for his report.

DISCUSSION ON THE CANCELLATION OF A MEETING

The committee discussed what month in the summer could they cancel a committee meeting.  The committee agreed that the best months to cancel a meeting would be either July or August 2012.  They will wait to hear from Chairman Vary on which one of the two meetings she will cancel.

Before adjourning Ms. Brunschon, Supervisor of Assessments, informed the committee that they mailed out 2200 senior freezes.  So far her office has received approximately 532 forms from people who returned them to apply for the freeze.

ADJOURNMENT

Moved by Mr. Whelan, seconded by Mr. Metzger, Sr., and it was carried unanimously to adjourn the meeting.

                                                                        Respectfully submitted,
