DEKALB COUNTY VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION

AUGUST 13, 2012

 

     The meeting started at 7:00 with President Rich Joslin calling the meeting to order.  There were 13 members in attendance.  Frank Beierlotzer led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Frank made the motion to accept the minutes and this was seconded by Don Jones.  The minutes were approved.  John Davis gave the corporation financial report and there is $1546.00 in the account.  Don made the motion to accept the financial report and this was seconded by Frank.  The report was approved.

 

     Herb Holderman gave the superintendents report.  We helped 31 veterans with food, 24 with shelter and 18 with utilities.  We helped one veteran with getting monetary benefits totaling $3185.00 for the month and $11,479.00 in retro pay.  We also transported 19 veterans to various VA facilities.  Herb went over the new budget for 2013 with us and Frank made the motion to accept the budget and this was seconded by Don.  The 2013 budget was approved by the commission.  Herb also explained that the open meetings act has been amended and that all members of the commission need to take a test on this.  Victor Ingram made the motion to pay the commission’s bills totaling $38,965.13 and this was seconded by Don.  The bills will be paid.

 

     Frank Beierlotzer submitted to the local papers a schedule of upcoming veteran’s events.  He also told us that the Vet Fest weekend was a big success.  Steven Scoughton is still working on a dental plan and looking at different guidelines.  The commission is looking at a cost of $5000.00 to $6000.00 per veteran.  Tammy Anderson told us that the Rockford VA Clinic is moving to North Mulford Rd on September 17th.  Herb Holderman, Steven Scoughton and Steve Kreitzer will be going to training in September.  The DeKalb County HHS committee had their meeting and Steven represented the commission.

 

     Don made the motion to adjourn at 7:35 and this was seconded by Frank.  We were adjourned.
