DEKALB COUNTY VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION

SEPTEMBER 10, 2012

The meeting started at 7:00 with President Rich Joslin calling the meeting to order.  There were 9 members in attendance.  Don Jones led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Don seconded the minutes.  The minutes were approved as read.  John Davis gave the corporation financial report, and there is $1546.00 in the account.  Bob Bend seconded the report and the report was approved.

Herb Holderman gave the superintendents report.  The commission helped 33 veterans with food, 25 with shelter and 19 with utilities.  The commission also helped 8 veterans receive $8529.00 in pay and retro pay totaling $103,965.00.  We also transported 30 veterans to various VA hospitals.  Victor Ingram made the motion to pay the commissions bills’ totaling $40,020.45 and this was seconded by Don.  The bills will be paid.  Steven Scoughton, Steve Kreitzer and Herb Holderman are in training at Bloomington this week.  The commission paid for one CDL training at Kishwaukee College.  Representative Robert Pritchard will be meeting at the DCVAC at 7:00 on September 17 with his newly formed veteran’s advisory committee.  Herb also stated that all members of the commission need public access training.

The question was brought up whether to continue to keep moving our meetings around because there are few extra members attending the meetings.  Victor made the motion to continue moving the meetings around the county for at least 6 months.  Don seconded the motion and it was approved.  We will have our October 8th meeting but will not have a meeting in November due to Veterans Day.  The ads for the commission are still running on WLBK and WSPY, but they both have the wrong phone number.

Steve Walz made the motion to adjourn at 7:40.  We were adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted

Steve Walz, Secretary
