The meeting started at 7:02 with Frank Beierlotzer leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 13 members in attendance including two new members, Steve Marberry from AMVETS and Randy Smith from American Legion Post 66. Linda Drake was not in attendance but was missed. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and Vic Ingram made the motion to accept the minutes and this was seconded by Don Jones. The minutes were approved. John Davis gave the corporation financial report and there is $1586.00 in the account. Don Jones made the motion to accept the report and this was seconded by Bob Bend. The report was approved.

 

Tammy Anderson gave the superintendents report. The commission helped 24 veterans with food, 21 with shelter and 18 with utilities. The commission also helped 7 veterans collect monthly pay totaling $6508.00 and retro pay totaling $47,096.00. 23 veterans were transported to various VA hospitals. The commission spent $36,580.38 for the month. Don Jones made the motion to pay the bills and this was seconded by Frank Beierlotzer. The bills will be paid.

 

The commission held a blood drive and we collected 3 pints of blood. There will be blood drives on May 9, and July 25. Steve Kreitzer of Sycamore VFW in conjunction with the 40/8 and Jewel-Osco collected food and necessities for troops. He helped collect 12 large banana boxes full of food and necessities and $220 in cash. Herb Holderman said that the doll house may be finished by mid-May if things keep going well. Don Jones asked questions about the by-laws of the commission and there was much discussion on this subject. He will get an updated set of by-laws. The sequester is not hurting the commission as yet. The American Legion Post Everlasting will be held in Genoa on April 18.

 

Don Jones made the motion to adjourn at 7:35 and this was seconded by Steve Walz. We were adjourned.
